BECOMING A CATHOLIC
The process for adults seeking faith and understanding within the Catholic tradition is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.).
R.C.I.A. is a journey towards Baptism or other Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist, Confirmation). It is ideal for a person who may have been baptised Catholic but has little understanding of the Catholic faith. It is also the way for a person who has been baptised into another Christian Denomination to be formally received into the Catholic Church.
A journey is a good description of the R.C.I.A. process. It begins with a meeting for all who are searching for deeper meaning in their lives and a desire to belong to a faith-based community guided by the Holy Spirit.
The R.C.I.A. journey has flexibility designed and adapted for the specific needs of the group. After the initial meeting, the group meet weekly with the R.C.I.A. team and sponsors. Meetings do have content but dialogue and discussion are integral to the process.
